Guys, I want to check this new Bitcoin ETF. How do I do that, on which market is that? What will be the difference if I buy this or buy Bitcoin on Coinbase? Is there only Bitcoin or is there an Ether ETF?
I did some research in this topic and here are my answers to your questions:
A) Check Bitcoin ETFs:
- If you live in the US, you can check Bitcoin ETFs here (these spot ETFs were recently approved) - https://www.etf.com/topics/bitcoin
- If you live in the EU, Iโd recommend using justETF (crypto ETFs were approved earlier here than in the US) - https://www.justetf.com/en/how-to/invest-in-bitcoin.html
B) Differenc compared to Coinbase:
- On Coinbase, you would buy โSpotโ Bitcoin and you own directly Bitcoin. This means, you can transfer Bitcoin to your wallet and youโre the owner of the private/public key.
- If you buy ETF, the ETF issuer is the owner of the cryptos, you canโt transfer Bitcoin to other wallet.
- Lastly, Iโd add that Coinbase is a crypto exchange which is less regulated and youโll enjoy less protection. You can buy ETFs through brokers that are regulated and youโll enjoy higher investor protection.
C) Ether ETF:
- In the EU, there are already Ethereum ETFs - https://www.justetf.com/en/how-to/invest-in-ethereum.html
- In the US, there are ongoing discussion to approve Ethereum-based ETFs too. See reference here: Ether Hits $3K for First Time in Nearly 2 Years Amid Anticipated ETH Exchange-Traded Fund Approval
