Opinion about stocks dividend Brokers

Hello everybody ,
My name is Bogdan and I’m from Romania, but I lived in Austria. In the last 2 years I invested in stocks , only for dividends on capital. com broker.
Last months when I try to buy some stocks, the app are not working and i contacted the broker and he told me they are not anymore available to sell stocks only CFD ( I bought a certain amount of shares every month). After a long time of waiting for a answer, the only solution is to sell all ( they don’t have this option to transfer all the stocks to other brokers) and then to send the money to other brokers. I have the same another account on IBKR, but there I didn’t invest in it for the moment. Sorry because I write too much.
My question is because I didn’t find something about this, how much are fee if I have an account in euro and I bought the stocks from USA in dollars? How much is the fee for dividends if I received. I talk about only for IBKR accounts. Or eToro are better for dividends stocks ? Thank you for future answer

Hi Bogdan,

Sorry to hear about the trouble with your broker! Let’s break it down for IBKR and eToro so you can decide what works best for dividends:

Interactive Brokers (IBKR):

  • Currency conversion: ~0.002%
  • Dividends: No fee, but U.S. withholding tax applies (usually 15% with a W-8BEN form).
  • Commissions: $0.005/share, $1 minimum per trade.

eToro:

  • Currency conversion: Fees apply when depositing euros since accounts are in USD.
  • Dividends: Credited directly, but U.S. withholding tax applies (15% with tax form).
  • Extra fees: $5 per withdrawal and $10/month inactivity fee after 12 months.

Which is better?
Both IBKR and eToro are great options, depending on your needs! If you’re looking for lower fees and long-term dividend investing, IBKR might be better. If you want a simpler, more user friendly platform, eToro could work well—just watch for extra costs.

We’ve also compared these two brokers side by side on various criteria here: eToro vs. Interactive Brokers.

Best,
Samuel

Thank you very much for writing to me. I finally chose IBKR, having had an account with them since 2023, but I didn’t invest much because I invested with the other broker (capital. com). Now I have transferred money to IBKR, after I had to sell the shares from the other broker, and I will invest here monthly. I will see how it will be with the dividend money, how much the commission will be for the ones in the USA and how much it will be for the ones in the EU. I wish you as many increases in your investments as possible!
