Dear BC,
In your post - https://brokerchooser.com/nl/education/stocks/how-to-buy-yieldmax-mstr-option-income-strategy-etf-online - you mention how to buy MSTY. I’ve a DeGiro, Interactive Brokers and Schwab account and none of the accounts let’s me buy MSTY because Yieldmax (the ETF issuer) did not release a Dutch Key Information Document (KID), which is required by European law.
Hence my question remains: how can I buy MSTY from the Netherlands. FYI: I’m not eligible to open a prof. trader account, I’ve already explored that route.
Ps: you can also answer in Dutch if you want.
Cheers,
Jyot
Hi Jyot,
Thanks for reaching out — and great question.
You’re absolutely right: as a European retail investor, you’re currently unable to buy US-domiciled ETFs like YieldMax’s MSTY due to EU regulations, specifically the PRIIPs regulation (Packaged Retail and Insurance-based Investment Products). This rule requires ETF providers to issue a Key Information Document (KID) in the investor’s local language — in your case, a Dutch KID.
Since YieldMax hasn’t released a Dutch KID, brokers such as DEGIRO, Interactive Brokers, and Schwab are legally required to block access to this ETF for EU retail clients.
Since you mentioned you’re not eligible for a professional trader account, your options are limited — but here are a couple of potential alternatives:
- One is to look for UCITS-compliant ETFs available in the EU that offer similar income-generating or options-based strategies. While there may not be a perfect match for MSTY, it’s still worth a shot exploring them.
- Another route some investors consider is opening accounts with non-EU brokers that don’t enforce PRIIPs restrictions. However, this comes with legal, tax, and protection risks, and is generally not advisable for retail investors in the EU.
Unfortunately, unless YieldMax chooses to publish a Dutch KID, MSTY will remain inaccessible for EU retail investors.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Best regards,
Andris
